Brown keeping his fingers crossed

Preston boss Phil Brown remains quietly confident of securing a deal to sign defender Clarke Carlisle on loan from Burnley.[LNB] Carlisle, 31, is in the final year of his contract at Turf Moor and is discussing personal terms.[LNB]"We have been in constant contact with Burnley with regards a number of issues," Brown told the Lancashire Evening Post.[LNB]"Clarke Carlisle is one of those issues and fingers crossed, we are close or further down the line in getting Clarke to come to us.[LNB]"He is a Leyland lad and he's said to me that all along in his career he has wanted to play for Preston North End at some stage. Clarke is a quality player who has played in the Premier League and the Championship."[LNB]
