Brewers land two former Clarets
Burton Albion have confirmed three signings today with two of them former Burnley players Alex MacDonald and Dominic Knowles, both of whom ended the season with the League Two club. Two year deal for Alex MacDonald
MacDonald joined the Brewers on loan at the end of January. It was initially for a month but that was extended to the maximum 93 days after he impressed manager Gary Rowett with his early performances.
He played in both of their play-off semi-finals against Bradford City but would not have been available for the final had they made it, this coming after the end of his loan period.
Burton were very much the favourites to land him when he was released by Burnley at the end of the season. There were suggestions from Devon that he might be on his way back to Plymouth but this was immediately dismissed by MacDonald himself who was making it clear that he had a deal done with a club which was always believed to be Burton.
MacDonald has agreed a two year deal with Burton and he will be joined at the Pirelli Stadium next season by Dominic Knowles who spent the last couple of months there after moving from Harrogate Town.
The 21-year-old, who was released by Burnley a year ago after two years as a full time professional, had a good season with first Gainsborough and then Harrogate Town leading to him getting a short term contract with Burton.
He didn't make the first team but did enough to persuade Rowett to offer him a one year contract which he has signed.
Rowett said after completing the signings: "Alex came in last season and did very well for us and I think he is only going to get better. He's a good age, has plenty of ability and knows exactly what we're all about and what we want to achieve.
"Dominic is an exciting prospect who clearly knows where the back of the net is and deserves his chance at professional level; his attitude during the brief time he spent with us has been spot on."
MacDonald becomes the third player released this summer by Burnley to have a new club following on from Adam Evans and Wes Fletcher who have signed for Inverness Caly and York respectively.
