Blake and Thomas on the move

Robbie Blake and Doncaster Rovers parted company last week and that was news that soon reached the Clarets Mad message board. However, Wayne Thomas signing for Rochdale as a move that passed almost unnoticed. Wayne Thomas back in the North West

Robbie signed for Doncaster last summer having been released from what had been virtually a two year non-playing contract at Bolton. At the time Dean Saunders, then in charge at the Keepmoat, said: "Robbie is blessed with talent.

"I know him well having played alongside him at Bradford an he's a genius at times. He's brilliant on the ball and still has an incredible appetite for the game."

Unfortunately it proved too much and he failed to start a single league game for Doncaster, making seven substitute appearances, and making a further seven appearances, with five starts, in the cup competitions.

He scored once, in the FA Cup against Oldham, and last week his contract with Doncaster was terminated by mutual agreement leaving the now 37-year-old Blake likely to hang up his boots.

Back in January, Wayne Thomas, who had been playing his football in Greece, returned to England with Blue Square Premier League club Luton. He made just two appearances, against Mansfield and Braintree in February, getting himself sent off in the second of those games, his first red card since 2006.

On Thursday, just ahead of the loan deadline, he completed a move to Rochdale until the end of the season and went straight into Keith Hill's squad for their Good Friday game at home to Aldershot. They drew 1-1 with Thomas an unused substitute.
