Blake: Coyle's convinced Clarets

21 August 2009 14:19
Blake smashed a stunning winner in the first top-flight game at Turf Moor in 33 years on Wednesday to shock Sir Alex Ferguson's side with a most unexpected result.[LNB]The striker has already consigned that goal to the history books however as he knows they cannot afford to rest on their laurels with Everton the visitors on Sunday.[LNB]"I've watched the replay of the goal about four times and I still can't believe it," said the 33-year-old.[LNB]"The manager was very upbeat before the game and that is how he always is. Anything is possible in football.[LNB]"He is so positive it is unbelievable and I think it rubs off on the players.[LNB]"We go into games thinking we have played in the Premier League for 10 years. He has a good knack of doing things like that and hopefully he can keep motivating us towards more points this season.[LNB]"He has a belief in the players that we can do well. When he is drumming it in all week it does sit there in the back of your head.[LNB]"If you don't believe an upset can be caused there is no point in going out there."[LNB]Coyle is a big believer in keeping his side happy and upbeat but stresses they still have to work hard.[LNB]"We always have fun. We have to remember it is still entertainment," said the manager.[LNB]"Yes, there is so-called pressure in football and we want to win games and stay in the Premier League.[LNB]"But I believe each and every day you should come into work with a smile on your face. I'm always smiling."[LNB]Burnley were among the favourites to be immediately relegated back to the Championship and after their opening 2-0 defeat that perception had not changed.[LNB]However, the result against United has shown their rivals they have to be wary of the Clarets, especially at Turf Moor.[LNB]But Blake knows his goal and that victory will quickly be forgotten if the side do not maintain their momentum.[LNB]"It is a great start for us but we are going to keep our feet on the ground," he added.[LNB]"We have beaten the champions but it is only three points and there is a long way to go before we can start celebrating.[LNB]"The manager won't let anyone get above their station. There are 36 games to go and it is going to be very difficult.[LNB]"We couldn't believe the press we had been getting after the Stoke game, which we dominated but for two set-pieces.[LNB]"That's football - you get written off and then you come back with a good performance against United but the next defeat we will be getting written off again.[LNB]"We are happy with ourselves and we believe in ourselves because we know we will cause teams problems in this division.[LNB]"But we are going to have to hit that standard against Everton again on Sunday."[LNB]Coyle has already told his players to forget the United result but not the performance.[LNB]"What happened is behind us, we can't affect it. We certainly enjoyed the night but our focus is on Sunday," he said.[LNB]"The priority is to get the players back on an even keel.[LNB]"As good as the result was the other night it was the same three points that were available at Stoke last Saturday and the same which are available against Everton.[LNB]"It is going to be a tough afternoon and again we will be underdogs but that is a target that sits comfortably with us.[LNB]"We have to make sure we are at our best in terms of standards and if we do that we can make a game of it."[LNB][LNB] Burnley v Everton.
