Beast of a signing at Gigg Lane

Former Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen, released in May after ten years at Turf Moor, has today signed for Bury just hours before the closing of the transfer window.

As it happens, being without a club, he could have signed for a club after the window closed but he's been training with Bury and today Kevin Blackwell signed him on what has been described as a short term deal.

Blackwell, a former goalkeeper himself, has said he'll give competition for the goalkeeper's shirt, particularly with first choice goalkeeper Rob Lainton undergoing a scan for a shoulder injury that kept him out of their big 4-1 win against Cheltenham on Saturday.

Lainton was signed from Bolton in the summer and in his absence there was a first game of the season for Trevor Carson who was a summer 2012 capture from Sunderland. That left former Arsenal trainee Reice Charles-Cook, another to come in this summer, as substitute.

Jensen goes straight into the squad for their Johnstone's Paint Trophy game at Port Vale tomorrow. Should he play it will be his first start since our FA Cup exit at Barnsley in January and his first ever game in the knock out competition for the League One and Two clubs.
