Bartley signing finally confirmed

01 February 2011 12:32
Burnley fans watching the clock last night saw it reach 11:00 p.m. with no news of Marvin Bartley having completed a move from Bournemouth to Burnley. Many hung on waiting for late news but all that came through was David Edgar leaving on a long term loan deal to Swansea City. However, some twelve hours or so after the window closed it was finally confirmed by both clubs that Bartley had signed for Burnley for the same fee as most of our other recent signings - the dreaded undisclosed.I believe it to be around £350,000 for the midfielder who is a second cousin of former Claret Mitchell Thomas and he's signed a three and a half year deal with the Clarets. He's been at Bournemouth since the 2007/08 season and has played over 130 games for them. Previously he'd played no league football with Hayes, Didcot and Hampton & Richmond having been released by Reading. There's further confusion over the player's age. Many media sources give a date of birth of July 1989, Bournemouth themselves have it as July 1987 which would mean he's 23. But it appears he's 24. We will get the date of birth confirmed for our squad list as soon as possible. The move has angered Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell who wasn't at all happy at our late approach for his player. He's slammed the player, our club, our chairman and a couple of agents as well, apparently not Bartley's agents. And so the window has finally closed with two new signings from League One - Charlie Austin and Marvin Bartley - with four players going out on loan deals, all until the end of the season. That's it - well, until the emergency loan window opens in one week's time.A big welcome to Burnley to our two new players.
