Barnsley v Burnley reaction

Keith Hill praised the sacrifices made by his players as his injury-plagued Barnsley side defeated Burnley 2-0 at Oakwell.[LNB] Hill was forced to tinker with his usual line-up following the loss of Jay McEveley and skipper Bobby Hassell to injury in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth, as well as being forced to switch his preferred midfield formation to counter specific threats.[LNB]But a first half strike from stand-in captain Jacob Butterfield and Ricardo Vaz Te's first goal for the Tykes saw off the threat of an eager Burnley side, who peppered the home goal with shots throughout the first half.[LNB]Ross Wallace had an early effort cleared off the line, with Jay Rodriguez smashing against the crossbar on his 100th appearance for the Lancashire side.[LNB]But both sides were running low on energy in the final phases on a rain-swept night at Oakwell, only the introduction of Vaz Te for a profligate Craig Davies injecting late drama into the occasion.[LNB]Asked for his thoughts on his team's performance, Hill said: "Superb. I'm over the moon for the players. There were a lot of sacrificial performances out there.[LNB]"Davies was playing not where he's meant to, I brought Jim O'Brien across to cover Kieran Trippier and he kept him quiet, all credit to him.[LNB]"They got the reward for their efforts over what I consider an excellent Burnley side. We now know we can be competitive and have a good chance of not losing any match.[LNB]"I'm getting great respect from all the players and I'm really pleased with the progress we're making.[LNB]"The players are happy to play for the team, not for themselves, and I'm really happy with everyone's contribution.[LNB]"We do have ambition to be more successful than just retaining our Championship status. The first aim is to get over the line, then you can build again."[LNB]Vaz Te joined the Tykes as a free agent in the summer following his release by Scottish Premier League side Hibernian, and bounced back to open his goalscoring account having been substituted at half-time at Fratton Park.[LNB]Hill joked: "He was rubbish against Portsmouth![LNB]"He often flatters to deceive but he was fantastic tonight. That's payback to his team-mates for his performance at Portsmouth."[LNB]Clarets chief Eddie Howe has now overseen two consecutive defeats after a promising four-game unbeaten run.[LNB]He said: "The defending was poor for both goals, I'm always disappointed with breakaways.[LNB]"We have to make sure we don't concede sloppy goals, something we've done all season.[LNB]"We could have won every game we've played but the small margins cost you. But I still believe in the players we have.[LNB]"I can hear what the fans say and I understand their frustrations. Time is of the essence and we need to win some games.[LNB]"As a manager all I can ask for is honesty from my players and they have to make sure their attitude remains the same.[LNB]"There is no point making changes for the sake of it."
