Away wins keep three on maximum points

Southampton won at Ipswich on Tuesday whilst Brighton and Derby followed that up with victories last night at Cardiff and Blackpool respectively, and the three of them sit at the top of the league with nine points from three games. All were considered tough games. Ipswich are one of the fancied teams this season under Paul Jewell and the other two, Cardiff and Blackpool had themselves started the season with two wins. Derby's win at Blackpool came courtesy of one goal from Craig Bryson but the other two enjoyed must more emphatic results, none more so than Southampton, for whom Danny Fox made a debut as substitute. They hit five and the newly promoted club are already looking as though they will be one to keep an eye on during the season. West Ham and Leicester were the pre-season favourites. West Ham had an easy 4-0 win at Watford but poor Sven Goran Eriksson at Leicester saw his side lose at home for the second time in just a few days. This time it was against Bristol City who had gone to Leicester without a point from their first two games. Leeds, like Bristol City, finally got off the mark with a 4-1 win against Hull but the big news from Elland Road came before the game with Ken Bates' programme notes. The chairman was clearly unhappy at the demonstrations against him at the previous game and said: "I'm saying I'm unimpressed by the demonstrations of a few morons. I ain't going anywhere soon. Some fans may not like me, or agree with me, but you're stuck with me. "I saved your club in 2005 and 2007 when nobody else would. The rebuilding of Leeds United is a bit like sex. In an age of instant gratification, Leeds United is having a long, drawn-out affair with plenty of foreplay and slow arousal." "We're in this for the long term. We may have had two disappointing results, but we will get there - we are building for the future." This is the same Bates who called Chelsea, under the Abramovic administration, as being a bunch of shysters from Siberia. When Chelsea reported him he said: " "I haven’t laughed so much since Ma caught her tits in the mangle." Be very thankful Burnley fans that Bob Lord kept him out of Turf Moor in the 1960s.
