Austin and Trippier share Cardiff game honours
Goalscorer Charlie Austin and full back Kieran Tripper shared top billing from our game last Saturday, the 1-1 home draw against Cardiff City. Trippier, for the second home league game in succession, won the man of the match vote. He had another excellent game, particularly in supporting the attack, and it was from his early cross that Austin scored our goal. Trippier won a 32.5% share of the vote, ahead of goalscorer Austin who came in second with 28.8%. Michael Duff was preferred to Andre Amougou in defence and, in his first appearance of the season, took third place with a 17.0% share of the vote. In the player ratings, the top two switched places. This time it was Austin, who looked in outstanding form until Cardiff kicked him out of it, led the way with a rating of 7.84 out of 10 whilst Trippier's rating of 7.36 gave him second place. Ross Wallace, again in good form, came third with a rating of 6.76 out of 10. Both Austin and Trippier win five points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year with both Duff and Wallace claiming one point each. Those points have seen Trippier go back above Jay Rodriguez into first place with a total of 15 points. No less than nine players have now won points. The man of the match vote for the cup tie against Barnet continues until the end of today with the poll, as usual down the right hand side of the front page. The Derby man of the match poll will start within an hour of the final whistle on Saturday. The results from the Cardiff game are below along with an updated Player of the Year Table.
