Arfield wins Turf Moor contract

Scott Arfield was the surprise name on the team sheet at Morecambe ten days ago for our first pre-season friendly but the former Falkirk and Huddersfield midfielder has become our second signing of the day.
Having played in the Morecambe game he was included for the trip to Ireland and the words of manager Sean Dyche suggested there was a strong chance he would be offered a deal after impressing in the second half of the game at Cork.
The 24-year-old Arfield has registered over 200 league appearances for his two clubs but wasn't a regular last season after then Huddersfield boss Simon Grayson signed both Adam Clayton and Oliver Norwood in the summer of 2012.
"Scott is a player with a good background who came down from Scotland a few years ago and is a really good talent," said Dyche after the midfielder signed a two year deal.
"He joined us in pre-season and valued the chance to work hard here. That has deservedly rewarded him with a contract and we hope he continues to build here and turn into a really valuable player for us."
With David Jones expected to be challenging for a midfield berth by the time we meet Bolton on the opening day of the season, the signing of Arfield gives us more options in an area that many thought was weak last season.
Once a target for Owen Coyle during his time at Burnley, Arfield has finally arrived after three years in England with Huddersfield, during which time he won promotion from League One to the Championship.
