Appleton is new man at Blackpool

It seems to have been one managerial appointment after another in the Championship recently and today Blackpool have given their job, which became vacant when Ian Holloway moved to Crystal Palace, to Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton.

Holloway left Bloomfield Road at the end of last week. He'd been linked with both Burnley and Blackburn but, having failed to land either, moved to Crystal Palace to replace Dougie Freedman who himself had been poached by Bolton.

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston was very critical of clubs such as ours earlier this week when he accused us of taking too long and he's taken Appleton on a one year rolling contract.

The new manager will be joined by Ashley Westwood who was with him at Portsmouth. He'll be first team coach with ex-Claret Steve Thompson retaining the position of assistant manager.
