Andy Madley will referee game at Derby

30 August 2013 17:45
Burnley's game at Pride Park tomorrow against Derby County will be refereed by Andy Madley from Wakefield.

He is the older brother of Bobby Madley who has now been promoted to the Select Group of referees from the start of this season but for Andy this is a third season as a Football League referee after following his brother ahead of the 2011/12 season.

His first ever league game was a League Two fixture between Morecambe and Barnet at the Globe Arena on the opening day of that 2011/12 season and his first season in the league saw him appointed for one Championship fixture between Hull and Peterborough at the KC Stadium in January 2012.

He was still mainly occupied in the lower divisions last season but did, in 38 games, referee ten in the Championship and his season ended with one of the League Two play-off semi-finals between Cheltenham and Northampton at Whaddon Road.

Last season also saw him referee Burnley for the first time. He took charge of the Capital One Cup tie against Plymouth at half time and, other than a poor decision to yellow card Charlie Austin, had a decent game.

Tomorrow will be his seventh game of the current season and his third in the Championship. In his six games so far he's yellow carded 15 players and also sent off Tranmere's Danny Holmes in their 2-1 defeat at Crewe. Of those 15 yellow cards there have been eight for home team players and seven for away team players.

Five of those yellow cards came in his last game in midweek, the cup tie between Burton and Fulham at the Pirelli Stadium, a tie that Fulham won on penalties. Those carded were Jack Dyer, Matthew Palmer, Jimmy Phillips and Michael Symes of Burton and Fulham's Hugo Rodallega.

Andy Madley is currently in 7th place in the RATE THE REF Table after scoring 78.67 out of 100 in the Plymouth game.

The assistant referees are Andy Hendley (West Midlands) and Ross Joyce (Cleveland). The fourth official is Ian Dudley (Nottinghamshire).
