Alexander's quit plans on hold
08 Oct 2009 - 09:42:50
Burnley midfielder Graham Alexander is adamant that he has no plans to retire even though he will be celebrating his 38th birthday this weekend.
The Scotland international has featured in over 750 League games for Scunthorpe United, Luton Town, Preston North End and the Clarets during his career and is enjoying life in the top-flight after spending almost two decades plying his trade in the lower leagues.
Alexander told the Scotsman: "Playing in the Premier League is something I've looked forward to all my career.
"I've got this chance and I really want to take it and give it everything I've got. It's a great fillip for me to have towards the end of my career - but hopefully not the end.
"I'm loving it and hopefully I can play at this level for a couple more years yet. It's a slightly different game to the Championship, with the pace of the players, and the finishing is of a higher standard.
"But I think you get a bit more time on the ball so, if you can use the ball and pass it, it's a positive for you. I'd like to think I can pass the ball reasonably well so I've adapted to that side.
"But, like everyone else, I'm finding my feet and you look forward to the challenge every week. With the players you put yourself up against, it's like a personal battle and a test every week."
