Alexander hopes for derby lift
26 Mar 2010 - 07:10:15
Burnley captain Graham Alexander is hopeful that a derby success against Blackburn Rovers will prove to be a catalyst in the club's battle to stay in the Premier League.
The Clarets are currently three points short of the safety mark going into a grudge showdown with their local rivals.
Alexander told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It's a massive game. Obviously it would have been anyway, whoever we were playing because of the situation we're in.
"But playing your biggest rivals on your home patch, there's added kudos if you win the game.
"There's not much love lost between the two sets of supporters, which is good because it adds a little bit of spice and players always love playing in those games and responding to them.
"These are the sorts of games that get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up.
"The last one at Ewood Park was a big game and we were disappointed to lose in the end. It's a different game now and one we're looking to win.
"Everyone knows the prize - what three points can help you achieve. We're not giving it up because we worked too hard last season to get into this position."
