Addicks loan move for Leon Cort

29 August 2011 14:24
Central defender Leon Cort's move to Charlton Athletic has been confirmed with the central defender joining the League One club on loan for the remainder of the 2011/12 season. This has to be good news for both player and club. Having played in the first two pre-season games he was not included on the tour to the South West and hasn't featured in any Burnley side since. It's clear he's not part of the plans and he hasn't played competitively for the Clarets since he was red carded in the 4-0 home defeat to Reading last season. He spent much of the remainder of last season on loan at Preston but now moves close to home where he joins up with a Charlton side who are currently in second place in League One with 13 points from their first five league games. Charlton have been busy in the transfer market since the end of last season and Cort is manager Chris Powell's 17th signing in this transfer window. Cort said today: "When I found out that Charlton were interested in me, I was interested straight away. It's a club with real ambition and it's always nice to have someone wanting you. "The team has made a great start to the season, and hopefully I can add to the squad. There will be suspensions and injuries throughout the season, so we need a strong squad and I will do all that I can to help the club to gain promotion." Cort becomes the 7th Burnley player to go out on loan along with Clarke Carlisle, Richard Eckersley, Wes Fletcher, Alex-Ray Harvey, Kevin Long and Joe McKee.
