A second Burnley game for referee Scott

21 October 2011 10:07
Graham Scott, from Oxfordshire, first refereed Burnley in January this year in our away game at Reading, and tomorrow gets his second game with the Clarets when we travel to the Ricoh Arena to face Coventry City.

I certainly had some concerns with his performance at Reading in that he seemed considerably keener to take action against us (the away side) than he did against home team Reading. He yellow carded Steven Thompson with less than four minutes gone (for an alleged elbow).

Whilst I'd no complaints overall at the three cards we got it took some working out as to how Reading only had Jimmy Kebe carded and quite how Jobi McAnuff left the pitch that day without punishment only the referee will ever know.

That there were cards was no surprise. He can have games when he hands them out easily and in a game just a month before that Reading game he sent off no less than four players, that in a cup tie between Leyton Orient and Droylsden with former Claret Lee Roche one of the players sent off.

This season he's given out 58 yellow cards and 6 red cards in just 14 games. Of those yellows, 21 have gone to home team players and 27 to away team players.

All but one of the red cards has been given to away team players and they include four Championship players. He sent off both Lee Martin and Tommy Smith in Ipswich's 7-1 defeat at Peterborough, Callum McNaughton of West Ham as they crashed out of the Carling Cup to Aldershot, and most recently Brighton's Marcos Painter in their 1-0 league defeat at Leicester.

His most recent game was the League Two clash between Southend and Morecambe at Roots Hall last Saturday. The game ended in a 1-1 draw with all the cards going Morecambe's way. He sent off Phil Jevons whilst also yellow carding Will Haining and Andy Fleming.

Graham Scott is currently in 36th place in the RATE THE REF table with a rating of 55.20 from the Reading game.

The assistant referees tomorrow are David Plowright (Nottinghamshire) and Mark Russell (Bristol). The fourth official is Marvyn Amphlett (Worcestershire).
