Bristol Rovers striker Richard Walker has snubbed a move to League Two rivals Kidderminster Harriers in favour of staying at The Memorial Stadium.
The 27-year-old was tempted to move to the basement side but the deal on offer was not enough and he would rather be a part of a side battling for promotion as opposed to one trying to stay in the Football League.
He told the Express & Star: "I spoke to Kidderminster and they offered me a deal to the end of the season, but it was on a lot less money Â? and to be honest, with two kids, I just couldn't afford to take it.
"Now I just have to wait and see whether there's another call from them or it comes to nothing.
"They had a good win at the weekend, so they might not need me now."
He added: "The gaffer has said he won't stand in anyone's way if they want to leave, although if it was up to him he'd like to keep me.
"But the way things are here, he's got to get the wage bill down and it's probably easier to get me out than some of the other lads who have got longer deals.
"All due respect to Kidderminster, but we are in a much better position in the table than they are.
"I think Rovers are a club that are going places and I'd still like to be part of that, so ideally I'd like to stay. All it takes is one injury and I could be back in the side.
"But I'm not in the team at the moment and although that doesn't mean I want to leave, every player wants to be playing football.
"If I went to Kidderminster, got in the team and started scoring a few goals, then it would help them get out of trouble and I'd get noticed, so there are pros and cons either way."
