Victory without style for Trollope
Jeff Hughes netted the winning goal on the half hour, drilling home a left-footed shot after a dreadful pass across his own box by County full-back Adam Griffin had set up the chance. Stockport midfielder David Poole was sent off for a second bookable offence in injury time and although the Hatters worked hard throughout, they lacked the quality to ease their relegation fears. Trollope said: "This was certainly victory without style. Sometimes when you don't play well you have to do the right things to ensure a clean sheet. "We at least did that, although we didn't pass the ball or move to anything like the standards we set ourselves. "The result puts us 10 points off the play-off position and if we can get a run going we could still be involved when it matters. But we will certainly have to play a lot better at Swindon on Saturday if we are to make it three wins in succession."
