Pirates land new shot-stopper

Bristol Rovers have added to their goalkeeping options by landing Newcastle United shot-stopper Fraser Forster on a one-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old has still to make his first-team debut for the Magpies but did feature in seven games during a loan spell at Stockport County last term.

Rovers chairman Nick Higgs said of the club's latest acquisition: "We view this as another strengthening of our squad, by adding competition for the goalkeeping position."

Meanwhile first-team coach Paul Trollope added: "We're delighted with the signing of Fraser. He's a highly-rated young goalkeeper, and there were a lot of parties interested in taking him on loan.

"It's a good signing for us, and will add competition for places. If all goes well, he may be staying here longer than the initial month."
