Lawrence wants a good start

Bristol Rovers' director of football Lennie Lawrence thinks the opening games of the season give the Pirates an opportunity to fly out of the blocks.

However, he is aware that at the start of last season the side won just one in nine and the previous campaign they tasted success just twice in the first 14 fixtures and he wants to put an end to those poor starts.

With the first three games this term being against Leyton Orient, Stockport County and Hartlepool United, who many believe will struggle at the foot of the table, there is the potential to get points on the board early.

Speaking to Bristol Evening Post, Lawrence said: "We've not started well in the last two seasons.

"No disrespect to the opposition, but the fixtures have given us a chance this time and we have to make sure we take advantage of it.

"I've always maintained that, if you finish a season badly, you're likely to start the next one the same way and vice-versa."
