Lambert earns boss' praise
11 Mar 2009 - 11:00:57
Hat-trick hero Rickie Lambert won special praise from Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope after Tuesday's 3-0 win at Hereford United.
Lambert took his goal tally for the season to 24 with a sublime performance after being handed the captain's armband for the game because of Stuart Campbell's illness.
Trollope said: "It was a late decision when Stuart reported ill on the morning of the game.
"But Rickie has been a leader for us on the field with his goals and his all-round play so I gave him the honour, which he gladly accepted - and he put in a great performance.
"Hereford had beaten some decent sides at home and we knew we'd have to play to a decent level to win - and we did that.
"We defended well and caused them problems going forwards. Rickie had a great night with his goals and his overall contribution."
