    Elliott commits to Pirates

    21 Jun 2007 - 16:19:57

Bristol Rovers defender Steve Elliott has pledged his future to the club by penning a new three-year deal with the League One newcomers.

The 28-year-old former Derby County and Blackpool defender will remain at the Memorial Stadium until June 2010 and boss Paul Trollope Is delighted with the news.

"We said all along that we wanted to keep the squad together after last season, and Steve was a very sought after player," he told the club's official website.

"It took a while to get the deal done, but now we're delighted it's done and dusted and that Steve will be with us for the next three years.

"Getting promoted at the end of last season was probably a key factor in being able to secure Steve on this kind of contract, but moving up a division gave us the financial ability to compete with some of the other offers he received.

"All the players are important, but I think from the way last season finished and Steve's personal form in some crucial matches, it showed why keeping him at Bristol Rovers was a top priority."
