Bristol City have filled the gap left by a facial injury to centre-back Jamie McCombe by snapping up Andy Webster on a six-month loan from Rangers.
The 26-year-old has struggled with injuries during his time at Ibrox and will gain much-needed match practice at Ashton Gate, with McCombe facing several weeks out with a fractured cheekbone.
City boss Gary Johnson told the club's official website: "We needed competition at centre-half and Andy is a rabbit out of the hat, that's for sure.
"To get somebody of Andy's experience, given the amount of games he played for Hearts and internationally for Scotland, is fantastic.
"He's seen our rising status and it's a move that works for all parties. He needs games and we feel he's fit enough."
