Weale earns Johnson praise

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has praised goalkeeper Chris Weale for his form since coming into the first team due to an injury to Adriano Basso.

The 26-year-old showed up well in the 4-1 win over Doncaster Rovers, having taken over from Basso, who suffered a calf strain against Birmingham City.

Johnson told the Evening Post: "I think Chris is showing the form that made him a regular at Yeovil Town.

"He's had his problems with injury and he's had to be very patient watching from the bench while Basso has done so well.

"But he's fully fit now and he's back to his very best. We've seen that in training and we've seen it in the matches he's played this season.

"We're very fortunate to have two such capable goalkeepers fighting it out for the shirt. That's the level of competition you need in the Championship."
