Russell pens Robins deal
22 Jun 2007 - 10:27:17
Bristol City have handed veteran midfielder Alex Russell a new one-year contract.
Russell, 34, made 38 appearances last season which automatically triggered a clause which extended his contract for another 12 months.
"Alex played a key part in the team's promotion to the Championship and deserves to play at a higher level," chairman Steve Lansdown told the club's official website.
Russell added: "I'm delighted to get it sorted and am looking forward to playing in the Championship."
Meanwhile, the Robins are reportedly closing in on Hibernian forward Ivan Sproule, who is set to travel to Ashton Gate to discuss personal terms over a move to England.
The Northern Ireland international still has two years remaining on a contract, so City will have to pay a transfer fee.
