Bristol City's 2-1 Carling Cup win over Peterborough United was soured by a serious knee injury suffered by Christian Ribeiro.
Ribeiro, making his City debut, caught his studs in the Ashton Gate turf, twisting his knee midway through the first half.
The Wales Under-21 international was stretchered off with an oxygen mask round his face and taken straight to hospital.
"It looked bad but hopefully not as bad as first thought," admitted Robins captain Louis Carey.
"Going forward he's excellent, on the ball he's good, he's quick and strong.
"He was coping well and everyone's best wishes are with him."
