Robins set for smaller squad
12 May 2010 - 11:09:22
Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown wants to see new manager Steve Coppell cut the Ashton Gate squad down to 24 senior players before next season.
Lansdown believes that a smaller squad will be easier to manage, as well as easing the burden on the finances at the club.
He told the club's official website: "It's not set in stone, but an ideal first-team squad would consist of 24 players. That would involve 21 outfield players and three goalkeepers.
"Steve Coppell doesn't need to sell before he can buy players. I don't want to put him under pressure.
"Numbers has been an issue and it stands to reason that, if you want to bring in better players, you have to cut elsewhere.
"We're committed to running with a smaller squad in next season and the new manager understands and is in full agreement with that."
