Bristol City have snapped up Plymouth Argyle defender Gary Sawyer on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Home Park at the end of the season and has rejected the offer of a new deal from the Pilgrims.

Caretaker manager Keith Millen told the Evening Post: "We were told about Gary in January after he had turned a contract offer down at Plymouth.

"He played against us earlier this season and has made over 30 appearances for Plymouth this season, meaning he's fit and ready to go.

"The biggest thing is he sees this move as a chance to further his career with us. I don't want him thinking there's no future with us.

"If he impresses the chairman and the fans then whatever happens with the managerial situation, I expect he'll have a chance to stay on with us."
