Robins back in for Maynard
31 Jul 2008 - 12:17:43
Bristol City are reported to be making a renewed attempt to capture Crewe Alexandra forward Nicky Maynard.
Robins boss Gary Johnson was linked with the 21-year-old last month, but was dissuaded from putting in an offer for the striker when Alex placed a £2.5million price-tag on Maynard's head.
However, Johnson is believed to be ready to revive his interest in the player after seeing attempts to sign Egypt international Emad Motaeb and Coventry striker Michael Mifsud fall through.
Maynard, who is under contract at Gresty Road for another two seasons, has netted 35 goals in 67 appearances for the Railwaymen.
Johnson has said of his failure to land Motaeb and Mifsud: "It's frustrating for me and for the supporters.
"But they mustn't be frustrated. It's gone and, if you can't quite trust someone's personality, then at some stage they're going to let you down.
"If our supporters had been sitting next to me when I spoke to Motaeb and Mifsud, they'd have agreed with me and said 'don't touch them'.
"They have to be the right personalities and we need people who can show the right commitment."
