More woe for Brooker
05 Jul 2007 - 13:16:58
Bristol City striker Stephen Brooker could miss the start of the season after suffering a setback in his battle to recover from a long-term knee injury.
The 26-year-old former Port Vale hitman had an operation in May in an attempt to rectify the problem, but was not fit enough to join in the start of pre-season training this week.
Robins boss Gary Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post: "No-one is more disappointed than Brooks. Last season he didn't play enough games for his liking, our liking or anybody's liking.
"But his body's had not just one problem, but two or three which all seem to be connected. It has taken a long time and it's frustrating for all of us.
"We'll give him the best treatment and the best care. He's doing all the strengthening work he has to do for all the other parts of his body.
"As a manager your medical team tell you whether somebody is ready or not and if they're not ready then you just have to wait until they are."
