Johnson waits on Brooker

Bristol City striker Stephen Brooker will not be rushed back into first-team action by Robins boss Gary Johnson, having been sidelined for the whole of the season to date by a knee injury.

The 26-year-old scored in a recent reserve meeting with Exeter City, but Johnson is aware that Brooker is still some way off full fitness.

He told the Evening Post: "His knee is fine now, but we have to be careful we don't work him too hard too soon and risk him picking up any other injuries.

"He still needs games and we have a couple lined up before Christmas, one official and the other behind closed doors.

"It's a case of getting his body and mind back to maximum sharpness and then assessing things again.

"We are pleased with his progress. He looked very sharp against Exeter, got himself into dangerous positions, got his shots off and scored a good goal."
