Johnson urges restraint
04 Jul 2008 - 15:08:00
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has told Robins fans not to panic despite the lack of new arrivals at Ashton Gate this summer.
Johnson has added Gavin Williams to his squad, but many supporters were aghast when Nick Carle was sold to Crystal Palace earlier this week.
Johnson has spoken reassuringly of his decision to sell the Australian though, saying: "It's just one of those decisions a manager sometimes has to make. He can't say publicly why he's made it, but he has his reasons.
"In Nick Carle's case, the reasons were business and football. We've made a profit on the deal, but that's not our only reason for selling."
City continue to be linked with Egypt international Emad Meteb and Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson, with Johnson adding: "We've three different bids on the table and two of them are for forwards.
"I think everyone knows what I'm after and Darren Byfield and Enoch Showunmi were moved out at the end of last season to free up a bit of space to bring in new strikers.
"We've some money to spend. I'm looking to add two or three to the squad and negotiations are still going on with the players, their representatives and their clubs."
