Johnson targets late surge

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson believes his in-form side can make a late charge for the play-offs. The win at Norwich City extended the Robins' unbeaten run to seven games and lifted them to eighth in the Championship table and within sight of a second successive top-six finish. Johnson admitted after the 2-1 victory at Carrow Road: "The table looks quite decent. Our focus is upwards and that's where we're looking now. We were looking over our shoulders a few weeks ago, but not anymore. "We're there to compete for a play-off place and that's what we'll keep doing until we're mathematically out of it. We always believe and our mentality is to look forward rather than back. "We knew we needed to turn it around in the middle of the season and not wait until the end. That was really important to us and we did make a conscious effort to go for it. "Psychologically, I wanted us to do it then to avoid any bad thoughts of getting sucked into the relegation fight. "There are some big teams down there, many of whom have been in the Premier League, and we didn't want to get dragged into that. "We've got ourselves out of that group and we're now looking to catch the next group. Now we're in a strong position, we need to push on and make sure we stay in contention."
