Bristol City boss Gary Johnson accepted that his side had deserved nothing from their 2-0 defeat at Southampton.
The Robins remained top of the Championship despite the setback at St Mary's, but Johnson was concerned by the performance.
He said: "It was a tough afternoon, a poor game on our part and not what we planned.
"Southampton were a better team than us and we hold our hands up. We chased Southampton around for most of the game.
"It was probably our poorest performance of the season and we're honest enough to admit that. But we're where we are because we're an honest bunch.
"If anything, that game will keep our feet on the ground. There will be no talk of the next level at this club."
