    Johnson's faith rewarded

    04 Dec 2006 - 10:53:09

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson was pleased that he had persevered with Phil Jevons after the former Everton trainee grabbed a first-half hat-trick in the FA Cup second round win against Gillingham.

The 27-year-old only moved to Ashton Gate from Yeovil Town in the summer, but brought his goal tally for the season up to 11 as the Robins earned a third round tie against Coventry City after beating Ronnie Jepson's side 4-3.

Johnson said: "Phil Jevons has shown his quality as a finisher in the first half and is full of confidence again.

"People have been suggesting I take him off in games during his lean spell, but no-one is saying it now. He has an excellent goal return for this time of year.

"I've always had great faith in Jevo. He did very well for me at Yeovil and he'll get 20 goals plus again this season providing he stays fit."
