Midfielder Lee Johnson has returned to Bristol City after Derby County failed to agree an extension to his loan stay at Pride Park.

The 28-year-old made seven appearances for the Rams in his initial month-long stay, but City were unwilling to sanction a fresh deal running until the end of the season.

Robins boss Gary Johnson told the club's official website: "Derby didn't want to take Lee for another month and run the risk of having him recalled.

"We have a number of games coming up in very quick succession and don't want to loan Lee out to Derby for the rest of the campaign when we might need him."
