Championship outfit Bristol City have sealed a massive coup in the transfer market by signing England international goalkeeper David James.

The 39-year-old has agreed a one-year contract at Ashton Gate after leaving stricken Portsmouth, with an option in place for a further 12 months.

James, who has won more than 50 caps for his country and who featured at the World Cup finals this summer, started his career with Watford, before enjoying spells with Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham Manchester City and finally Pompey.

The veteran had also been linked with interest from Celtic and Fulham, but has opted to try his luck with the Robins.

Meanwhile, City have confirmed that right-back Bradley Orr has left the club to join Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.
