Bristol City boss Brian Tinnion has made Swindon Town's Matt Heywood his third Bosman signing of the summer.
The 25-year-old defender has agreed personal terms with City and will sign a three-year contract on July 1, after his County Ground deal expires.
Heywood has spent over four years with Swindon since moving to the club from Burnley, but is looking forward to a new challenge.
"After speaking to the manager I knew that the club is only looking in one direction and that's up," he told City's official website.
"If we get off to a good start next season I don't see any reason why we can't win automatic promotion. The club has to be aiming for the top two.
"Obviously every player wants to play at a higher level, and with the players we have at Bristol City there's every chance of winning promotion in the new season.
"I only live down the road so I know all about Bristol and how big a club it is. The gaffer didn't have to do a lot of selling, it was just a matter of meeting him and hearing his plans for the team."
