FA Cup match fails pitch inspection

Published: 02 Jan 2010 - 11:12:58

Bristol City's third-round tie against Cardiff has become the first FA Cup match of the day to fall victim to the weather following a pitch inspection.

Referee Peter Walton conducted an inspection on Saturday morning and concluded the frozen pitch was unplayable.

Scunthorpe's third round tie with Barnsley got the go-ahead at Glanford Park after overnight temperatures did not dip as far as expected.

The League One fixture between Leyton Orient and Yeovil was called off because of a frozen pitch following an 8am inspection.

In League Two, league leaders Rochdale have called off their match against Rotherham on safety grounds due to treacherous conditions around Spotland. The decision came before a scheduled pitch inspection at 10.30am.

Also off are the League Two meetings between Darlington and Port Vale, Hereford and Crewe, Accrington and Gillingham and, after a pitch inspection on Saturday morning, Macclesfield and Morecambe.

In Scotland, Saturday morning also saw the First Division match between Dunfermline and Raith postponed due to a frozen pitch.
