Carey nears Robins comeback
12 Nov 2008 - 07:06:26
Bristol City defender Louis Carey is closing in on a first-team return after more than a month out of action due to toe and knee injuries.
The 31-year-old centre-back will make a reserve team outing against Salisbury City before, hopefully, returning to the fold for the weekend clash with Nottingham Forest at Ashton Gate.
Robins boss Gary Johnson told the Evening Post: "Louis will play in the reserve game and will, hopefully, be available for the weekend.
"His return is a big boost for us and a big boost for him personally. It's been a long time for Louis and he's itching to get back out there and play.
"It's important to have your captain around the place and involved, because he's an influential figure.
"Louis is a very experienced player and one of the real stalwarts at this club and we want him to be fit and available as soon as possible.
"It's also important to have competition for places and that's something we've missed at the back recently."
