Brooker on the mend
16 Nov 2007 - 14:52:42
Bristol City hit-man Stephen Brooker is back in training and hopes to be playing for the Robins first team before Christmas.
After going under the knife on his injured knee for the second time in a year, Brooker was concerned that his career could suddenly be coming to an end.
However, the former Port Vale striker is now taking his first steps to a complete recovery after joining up with his team-mates in midweek for his first training session of the season.
Brooker told the club's official website: "It's all going very well at the moment. There have been no setbacks so far. The next step for me is playing 45 minutes for the reserves.
"I've always set my sights on being back before Christmas and the physio is of the same opinion. That's a definite possibility."
Brooker signed for the Robins in 2004 for £150,000 from Vale. In his time at Ashton Gate, Brooker has scored 34 goals in 93 league appearances.
