Brooker close to return

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson believes Steve Brooker is close to a first-team recall after finally recovering from knee surgery.

The 26-year-old suffered no ill-effects after playing in a reserve team game earlier this week, his first 90 minutes of action for more than six months.

Johnson said: "Brooker isn't a million miles away. He played at Plymouth and came through with flying colours.

"He's improving all the time and he looked sharp in what was a very competitive game. Coming through his first full game is an important step for him.

"But we're unbeaten in five games and are third in the table so we don't need to rush him back."
