Trollope: We should have won
Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope expressed his frustration after his side were held to a 2-2 draw by Exeter.
On a day the Grecians paid tribute to recently deceased striker Adam Stansfield, who died from cancer last week, Daniel Nardiello opening the scoring for City before Jo Kuffour equalised.
Richard Duffy was sent off for the Grecians in the second half and Will Hoskins gave Rovers the lead only for John O'Flynn to equalise from the penalty spot.
Trollope said: "It is two points lost. We are hugely frustrated to concede the "penalty" in inverted commas in the closing stages. I say inverted commas because the players are adamant Byron Anthony took the ball and in no way was it a penalty.
"But we had our chances to have won it and we didn't. We feel very frustrated not to be going back with three points. Credit to Exeter, they started the game very well and got a goal ahead and had a chance of another one. But I felt as the first half wore on, we grew into the game and got a deserved equaliser after creating a number of chances.
"The game changed with the sending off. We looked at that stage - especially after we got the second goal - like we would go on and win comfortably. We had the game in the palm of our hand. Unfortunately, we stopped doing a few things that you have to do against 10 men - namely keep the ball and press the ball when the opposition have it. We stopped that and allowed Exeter some counter attacks and from one, they got the penalty."
