Start date for community hospital

Building work on a £54m community hospital at Hengrove Park in south Bristol is to start in the new year.Contracts are due to be signed in February, with work starting a few weeks later. It is estimated the first patients will be treated in 2012. [LNB]An NHS Bristol spokeswoman said the Department of Health announcement was "exciting news" for the project. [LNB]"This marks real progress in transforming the way we can provide healthcare to people," she said. [LNB]Public-private partnership[LNB]The new hospital will offer an 8am to 8pm GP service, a day surgical treatment centre and a community rehabilitation service with inpatient beds. [LNB]Bristol South MP Dawn Primarolo said of the latest development: "It means that the NHS in Bristol will finally deliver on its promise to provide people in south Bristol with the local hospital services for which they have campaigned for so long. [LNB]"Once contracts are signed in the new year we can look forward to seeing the building work begin and the dream will finally become a reality." [LNB]The hospital is a public-private partnership with Bristol Infracare LIFT.
