Lawrence expects transfer rivals

The Pirates are in talks with several players and are known to be chasing defenders and midfielders after letting the likes of Craig Hinton, Ryan Green, Joe Jacobson and Craig Disley leave at the end of the season. Lawrence insists that the current economic downturn means clubs are desperate to recruit players without paying a transfer fee. He told the Evening Post: "There are some good players available on Bosman transfers who shouldn't really be available for free at all, and because of that everybody is after them. "We have quite a few balls in the air at the moment - I am not going to name names because that would only alert even more clubs. But the players we are speaking to are also talking to other clubs as they want to see what is out there for them. "It means things are going backwards and forwards and it could take a while to wrap things up, but we hope to make some progress next week. It would be nice to have at least a couple on board by then."
