Green keeping fingers crossed

Mike Green wants to prove to manager Paul Trollope that he is good enough to be Bristol Rovers` first-choice goalkeeper. Trollope is said to be in the market for a new keeper after summer signing Luke Daniels suffered a back injury that is likely to rule him out of the start of the new npower League One campaign. But Green, who has impressed in two pre-season friendlies for Rovers, is dreaming of making his full League debut for the Pirates in their opening-day trip to Peterborough on Saturday. The 21-year-old told the Bristol Evening Post: "I'm just taking it game by game and keeping my fingers crossed. I think I have done well in the two friendlies and all I can do now is keep my head down and work hard in training. "Playing in the two games has given me a lot of confidence, but I'm not getting carried away. There is no point getting big-headed about it because the manager could bring in another goalkeeper next week and I'll be back to number two again." Green added: "Patience is important when you are a number two goalkeeper, especially a young one like I am. I have been here five years and, if my chance comes, I'm going to make sure I take it."
