Packwood out for Rovers

Bristol Rovers will be without defender Will Packwood for the FA Cup second-round clash against Crawley.

The 20-year-old, on loan from Birmingham until January, has not been given permission by his parent club to feature against John Gregory's men so he will miss out.

Striker Ryan Brunt will also be on the sidelines having been unable to start a match since late October. The former Stoke man had a scan which confirmed he did not suffer any serious damage to his knee but he has had an injection and will return during the festive period.

Long-term injury absentees Jim Paterson (leg) and Danny Woodards (knee) are edging closer to full fitness but have not returned to full training while Chris Beardsley and John-Joe O'Toole serve the final game of their three-match bans.

New Crawley boss John Gregory has a fully-fit squad to choose from for his first game in charge.

Gregory, who signed an 18-month deal to replace Richie Barker earlier this week, must decide whether to make changes from the side narrowly beaten by Crewe last Saturday.

He could call on experienced striker Gary Alexander, who was in caretaker charge against Crewe, up front in a bid to solve Crawley's goalscoring problems - they have found the net just once in their last eight league matches.

Gregory has one familiar face in his squad in the shape of veteran midfielder Dannie Bulman, whom he signed as a teenager at Wycombe in 1998.
