Richards in line for Rovers recall

Bristol Rovers could recall Elliot Richards to their starting line-up when they face Cheltenham.

The Welshman dropped to the bench for the defeat at Rochdale having taken a whack on the knee at Torquay on Boxing Day and John Ward has to decide whether to stick with Alefe Santos or recall Richards.

Ward could also decide to rest defender Mark McChrystal who has been thrown back into action after three months on the sidelines, with Tom Lockyer another option.

Seanan Clucas and Danny Woodards will return from injury during January but this local derby comes too soon for the pair.

Cheltenham defender Steve Elliott looks unlikely to face his former club.

The 35-year-old experienced centre-back picked up an ankle injury in training which has sidelined him for the festive period and looks to keep him out of the local derby.

Connor Goldson is set to deputise once more while West Brom loanee Kemar Roofe is set for a recall to to the starting line-up having impressed as a substitute in the shock loss to Mansfield.

The loan stays of Goldson and Roofe, along with Rotherham loanee David Noble, expire after Saturday's home match with leaders Chesterfield.
