Bristol Rovers have signed Doncaster and former Bristol City striker Paul Heffernan on a month-long loan deal. The 28-year-old Irishman joined Doncaster in 2005 and scored when they beat beat Rovers in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2007. [LNB]"With Chris Lines injured we need another goal threat and I think Paul can add to it," director of football Lennie Lawrence told BBC Radio Bristol. [LNB]"He knows his position and knows his game and we're pleased to sign him." [LNB]Lawrence continued: "We've got to bring people in that are either different or on a par with what we've got already, if not better. [LNB]"We don't normally loan unless there's a prospect of extending it to its maximum or a permanent, and in Paul's case there is a possibility of a permanent move in the summer." [LNB]Heffernan began his career with Notts County in 1999 where he made 114 appearances in all competitions, scoring 37 goals. [LNB]In 2004 he joined Bristol City spending just one season at Ashton Gate scoring five times in 27 league matches. [LNB]Heffernan moved to Doncaster in June 2005 and has bagged 53 goals, his last coming in the 4-1 home defeat by Middlesbrough two weeks ago.
