Mohamed quickly makes his mark

Kaid Mohamed marked his Bristol Rovers debut with a goal in a 3-1 win against Newport at a windswept Memorial Stadium.

The loan signing from Port Vale broke the deadlock in first-half injury time with a smart shot on the turn after Ollie Clarke's effort was deflected towards him.

Eliot Richards doubled the lead after 48 minutes, sidestepping a challenge from Andy Sandell before arrowing a low shot inside the far post from the edge of the area.

But Rene Howe reduced Newport's the arrears with a first-time shot from Ryan Burge's pass in the 57th minute to give the visitors hope.

Lee Minshull then saw a shot strike a post for the Welsh side before John-Joe O'Toole wrapped up the points with a 90th minute strike from outside the box.

Rovers had the benefit of the strong wind in a first half that also featured a ferocious hailstorm and Mohamed should have scored after 25 minutes but shot wide.

Newport had a good spell just before falling behind with Rovers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall tipping a Howe shot onto the crossbar and then palming wide an angled drive from Minshull.
